About me
My philosophy when it comes to therapy is that each client has within themselves the ability to heal and create solutions that fit within their context. I see my role as therapist not to solve your problems, but rather to ask the questions that help you find your own solution. Afterall, you are the expert of your own life.
My academic journey started when I completed a BA and then an honours degree in Drama from the University of Pretoria. My path then led to arts education and performance and I obtained a PGCE (Intermediate Phase) through UNISA. While I was a drama teacher I realised that I had an affinity and inclination towards helping my students reach their full potential, beyond what was expected of them in drama lessons. I then went on to complete a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through the University of Johannesburg. I completed my Internship at Epworth Therapy and Assessment Centre in Germiston.
I have a special interest in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), psychometric assessment, child and adolescent therapy, Narrative Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy, couples counselling, gender diversity, affirmative therapy, anxiety and anger management. I have worked in a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care for children in need of care and protection. I was also the primary psychologist at a high school in Randburg and have worked in private practice.
I am trained in using an Integrative Approach to therapy, which means that I use a therapeutic approach that fits best with you and the challenges you are facing. I have undertaken further professional development in Solution Focused Brief Therapy, particularly in terms of suicide prevention and intervention and anxiety in children. I am also in the process of further educating myself in comprehensive DBT training through the DBT Institute of South Africa. I am proficient in providing therapy and assessment in both English and Afrikaans.
